Resumen

GUERRAS-MARTIN, Luis Ángel  y  MONTORO-SANCHEZ, Ángeles. Adjusting organisational design as a factor of success in cooperation agreements between companies. Innovar [online]. 2009, vol.19, n.35, pp.133-150. ISSN 0121-5051.

The purpose of this article was to analyse how adjusting organisational design affects the success of cooperation agreements between companies. The information processing model was thus used for theoretical reference. This model was originally proposed by Galbraith for analysing a company's internal organisational design; it has thus been adapted here to the specific characteristics of external design (or cooperation agreements) and related to information processing needs and capacity. Furthermore, different approaches have been developed and used for measuring the adjustment construct. The results obtained from a sample of international R+D agreements revealed that adjustments made to information capacity and needs for carrying out the tasks involved in a specific agreement had a positive influence on success when information needs exceeded capacity. When an approach emphasising efficiency was used, the results showed the opposite relationship between adjustment and success.

Palabras clave : cooperation agreements; alliances; adjusting organisational design; coordination; information processing model.
