This article rebuilds the place that a group of Colombian intellectuals, who could be called progressives, gave to violence the meaning of a political action instrument, between 1985 and the present time. It confirms how, among that group, the apologists for violence as a creative agent of a new order decreased. However, it also presents how that attitude did not lead to an absolute rejection of violence, since it gave grounds as a guarantor of some essential changes, which that were supposedly not possible through the usual channels.
