Resumen

FONTALVO GOMEZ, Miriam; VECINO PEREZ, Rogelio  y  BARRIOS SARMIENTO, Amadis. African palm oil elae guineensis: Alternative energy resource to biodiesel production in Colombia and its environmental impact. Prospect. [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.1, pp.90-98. ISSN 1692-8261.  https://doi.org/10.15665/rp.v12i1.155.

In Colombia, the environmental contamination generated by the burning of fuels is the main cause for the deterioration of the air quality. This increase is the negative effects on the environment and the human health. Currently, the global concern to protect the planet, leeds to the need of finding energy alternatives obtained from renewable sources, which are less polluting and capable of reducing the emissions of greenhouse gases (produced during the process of fuel burning), which have an impact on global warming. Biofuels are defined as biological fuel obtained from biomass renewable way. They have become the favorable alternative for this purpose. In Colombia there has been an increase on the biodiesel industry (biofuel produced by basic transesterification reaction of the oil extracted from the African palm and appropriate conditions of stir and temperature) to protect the environment. This material has been produced as a consult tool, in which the chemical issue is harmonized from the transesterification reaction with factors related to national regulations and environmental impact.

Palabras clave : Biofuel; Biodiesel; Biomass; Transesterification; Environmental impact; African palm.
