Introduction: The health of people in México is currently affected by cardiovascular diseases, including hypertension stands out as the main precursor of these, with a seriously compromised grip level, although there an effective treatment for control. Objective: The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between treatment adherence and its effect based on socioeconomic level in hypertense patients in a population in the State of Mexico in December 2010. Materials and Methods: A cross sectional study in a sample of 161 elderly hypertense patients. Results: age average 56 ± 14 years; 83% are woman with 5 years or less of schooling; it is worth mentioning the significative links between the variables of adherence and blood pressure control. Discussion and Conclusions: Results reflect the need to improve the disturbing and deadly high levels of arterial pressure. There is no doubt that the effect of socioeconomic status in the population behind the results as one of the possible mechanisms involved in the incidence of arterial hypertension.
