LANDERO-TORRES, IVONNE et al. New records of ant species (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) for Tlaxcala, Mexico. Rev. Colomb. Entomol. [online]. 2015, vol.41, n.2, pp.275-277. ISSN 0120-0488.
In the different states of Mexico there is an uneven sampling effort; for this reason there are regions of the country that are still unexplored in terms of ant studies. In order to contribute to the knowledge of the myrmecofauna of Mexico's Tlaxcala state, specimens were collected by hand and by using pitfall traps. The presence of nine ant species was recorded for the first time for the state. Thus, the known number of ant species in Tlaxcala was increased to 29. These results demonstrate the scarcity of knowledge regarding the myrmecofauna of Tlaxcala. Systematic sampling is therefore recommended in order to increase knowledge of species richness in this Mexican state.
