ALMIRON, Adrián Alejandro. The Occupation of National Territory of Chaco: Entrepreneurs, Farmers and the Role of State Experts (1926-1935). Anu.hist.reg.front. [online]. 2014, vol.19, n.1, pp.138-163. ISSN 0122-2066.

Since 1903, the occupation of National Territory of Chaco was conducted by the state, mainly, through the creation of colonies and towns. At that time, land allocation included concessions, leasing and wake arrangements between settlers and the state. However, since 1920, the process of settlement in this territory was frenetic; the new arrivals settled in the land they considered were free which caused disputes over land ownership. This work focuses in a conflict of land possession where the role of state agents was important in order to determine land tenure. Taking into account the conflict between La Chaqueña Company and other settlers from 1926 to 1935, this article will examine the role of land inspectors to solve legal disputes concerning land rights. Two sources are used to elucidate this process, land inspections reports and resolutions enacted by the General Directorate of Lands.
