FERNANDEZ PINTO, MANUELA. CONTROVERSIES IN CLINICAL RESEARCH RACE-SPECIFIC STUDIES AND THE BIDIL CASE. Ideas y Valores [online]. 2022, vol.71, suppl.8, pp.218-236. Epub 19-Jun-2024. ISSN 0120-0062. https://doi.org/10.15446/ideasyvalores.v71n8supl.103586.
This article aims to analyze the clinical studies that support the approval and use of BiDil, the first drug approved for exclusive use in African-Americans, as well as the controversy surrounding this drug. In particular, my aim is to show that the controversy over BiDil should not be understood as purely epistemic, but rather as a complex controversy in which epistemic, ethical, and commercial aspects converge. Understanding how these aspects are interrelated and what knowledge is available to us given the complexity of such interrelations is crucial for understanding the BiDil controversy, as well as other scientific controversies today.
