ALMARIO GARCIA, Óscar. The crisis of the spanish monarchy and the independence of Nueva Granada, 1808-1830. Historiography periodization, problems and perspectives. Mem. Soc. [online]. 2011, vol.15, n.30, pp.53-68. ISSN 0122-5197.
This article proposes a potential historic periodization structure for the systematic study of the independence in Latin America, especially that of Nueva Granada. For this three fundamental issues are approached: the crisis in the Spanish monarchy, the irruption and transformation of the American autonomy and the subsequent insurgent independence, and the emergence of the republican nationalism. This approach gives importance to the relevance of long-term historic antecedents and grants interpretive clout to the issue of identity and the leadership of specific individuals (Santander y Bolívar). Finally, it is suggested that the use of periodization transcends methodology and that it must serve as basis in the review of the nationalistic ideology and the Eurocentric paradigm which impedes the creation of a strictly Latin American history.
