This article presents a view of short run situation in the recent past in Latin America and Colombia. Special attention is given to determinant aspects of the good situation in the region and it is discussed whether the good results are a consequence of healthy macroeconomic policies or instead a result of external factors such as good prices of commodities, an increase in terms of trade, and foreign capital inflows and remittances from emigrants. The trends of data as fiscal as external and internal sector reveal that even in the expansive phase of the cycles these economies spent excessively as well as Colombia.
