AGUILAR, Karla. MARGINS OF THE CITY AS MARGINS OF THE NATION IN LA COLA DE LA SERPIENTE BY LEONARDO PADURA. perifrasis. rev.lit.teor.crit. [online]. 2016, vol.7, n.14, pp.52-63. ISSN 2145-8987.
The concept of Nation-state, a construction legitimated in the approaches of imagined communities of Benedict Anderson, has been widely discussed in recent years. The work of Leonardo Padura configured, in this way, new processes of cultural and political redefinition which break with the idea of unity and homogeneity of national identity. La cola de la serpiente exacerbated this rupture with the introduction of the Chinese community in Havana. Chinatown is the metaphor of belonging to the nation as its destroyed spaces land the great "national values" to the immediacy of violence and necessity.
