LEE PENAGOS, Juan Camilo. POLITICS IN JOSÉ MARÍA ARGUEDAS’ EL SEXTO: SENSIBILITY FROM THE “SIERRA”, MAGIC AND REALISM. perifrasis. rev.lit.teor.crit. [online]. 2019, vol.10, n.20, pp.11-28. ISSN 2145-8987.  https://doi.org/10.25025/perifrasis201910.20.01.

This article will analyze the way Arguedas, in his novelEl Sexto(1961), points an absence in the Peruvian political field: there is no concrete indigenous political proposal that could disengage itself from the APRA and the Communist Party. He highlights the form the indigenous sensibility is different from the political logics of the APRA and communist militants, that are discussed by Gabriel-the protagonist of the novel-with them. The experience of intimacy with the reality that the characters withquechuaas mother tongue has is the principal element of that sensibility.
