DEL MONTE MADRIGAL, Juan Antonio. The Securitization of the United States-Mexico Border in Pre and Post- Pandemic Times. Nómadas [online]. 2021, n.54, pp.83-99. Epub 14-Jan-2022. ISSN 0121-7550. https://doi.org/10.30578/nomadas.n54a5.
This article makes a historical and political review of the actions that have reinforced and hardened the US-Mexico border, based on the argument of US national security. The author addresses the ways in which undocumented migrants and viral diseases, during the pandemic, have become a threat to the geopolitical and commercial interests of the United States and have contributed to the gradual hardening of the border system. The article concludes by highlighting the fact that Mexican border cities have been affected by the increasing security promoted by the Northern country, as well as by the continuity of migratory flows, and the logic of mobility restrictions due to the struggle against the covid -19 pandemic.
