The purpose of this article is to understand the lived histories of high school students, professors, and social leaders facing organized crime and territorial control executed by Sinaloa's cartel factions in Culiacancito locality, municipality of Culiacan, Sinaloa, Mexico. Since 10 years ago, this town has been described as a death zone because of the complex routines of hybrid violence that accentuate territorial disputes over the production and racking of drugs, but also over the illegal extraction and fuel sale. Facing a scenario deranged by insecurity conditions affecting the population we consider necessary to promote memory recovery to activate community sensitivity and reconciliation. We started from participatory-action research as a methodology, we resumed the phases of diagnosis and pedagogical intervention performed at the October 2 high school of the Autonomous University of Sinaloa. We worked from the premises of memory pedagogy with a dialogical and horizontal positioning. Thus resignifying the school as a space for the confrontation of truth and the healing of the painful past. We organize the results into three sections: a) schools of death, pedagogies of cruelty, and necrozone stigmas; b) places of mourning and territories in dispute over drug violence; c) civil resistance dynamics and reconciliation practices from the classroom. We conclude that lived stories shape the pedagogy of memory to reflect and discuss unnamed facts from the school environment. At the same time, narratives, situated experiences, and collectively shared knowledge become pedagogies of hope. This allows us to consider that all violence is overcome, that from a community spirit you can build peace from below.
