LEVIN, AXEL. UNEQUAL ORGANIZATION OF CHILD AND YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH CARE: SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DISABILITY CERTIFICATION AT A HOSPITAL IN ARGENTINA. Maguare [online]. 2022, vol.36, n.1, pp.17-37. Epub 12-Jan-2023. ISSN 0120-3045. https://doi.org/10.15446/mag.v36n1.100868.
Based on ethnographic research at the Carolina Tobar Garcia Hospital in Argentina, this article problematizes the notion of care. I focus on how professionals work with the patients' relatives. I also examine the distribution of responsibilities and the social stigmas that patients' relatives must deal with. I analyze gender inequality as well in the tasks required for child and adolescent mental healthcare and assess its productive nature for social and family life. I examine the implications of the disability certification as well and explore how this certificate works as a strategy for access to rights. Finally, I highlight how initiatives that extend care networks to the social and community spheres have the potential to become new forms of social organization.
