QUINTERO RAMIREZ, Sara. USE OF PROSOPOPOEIAS IN SOME CHESS NARRATIVES. Linguist.lit. [online]. 2022, n.81, pp.110-125.  Epub 17-Fev-2023. ISSN 0120-5587.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.lyl.n81a05.

In this paper we identify and characterize the rhetorical figures of prosopopoeia used in oral narratives of chess games. For this purpose, we examine a corpus constituted by five chess events’ narratives. Based on research on sports discourse, as well as on chess-related studies, we distinguish both the figures of anthropomorphism and those of personification used by the reporters of the corpus in order to determine the function these figures play at the textual level. With this article we contribute to studies on sports discourse, especially those focused on the narratives of intellectual disciplines such as chess.

Palavras-chave : sports narrative; chess discourse; prosopopoeia; anthropomorphism; personification.
