Any object, material, or substance which accidentally or voluntarily enters from outside and invades the organism, is considered a foreign object, and which is capable or not of altering any of the body functions. Foreign objects can enter any part of the body, with the natural cavities such as ears, mouth, and nose being the most commonly affected. Other areas affected are skin, mucosa, respiratory track and digestive system. The materials most commonly found as foreign objects are animal bones, glass, synthetic materials, and metallic elements such as coins or batteries. The treatment provided to these problems depends on the location and the effect being produced. A clinical case of a patient who accidentally observed the presence of a foreign body in the labial mucosa of the lower lip is presented. The diagnosis was made by means of a complete clinical history and the use of diagnostic aids necessary to establish the presence of the foreign body and to provide the adequate treatment.
