VITERI, Silvio E.; MARTINEZ, John W.  e  BERMUDEZ, Ángela C.. Selection of green manures for the soils of Turmequé (Boyacá). Agron. colomb. [online]. 2008, vol.26, n.2, pp.332-339. ISSN 0120-9965.

The main objective of this study was to identify associations of green manures, which prove to have the greatest potential as a source of organic matter for the soils of Turmequé (Boyacá). The experiments were carried out on three farms located at 2,300, 2,650 and 2,860 masl. A representative soil sample was collected from each farm and sent to the laboratory for fertility analysis. The treatments were represented by 10 triple and 4 quadruple green manure associations. The associations included the legume vicia atropurpurea (Vicia sativa L.) in combination with oats (Avena sativa L.), sunflower (Hi Doris) (Helianthus annus L.), castor-oil plant (Ricinus communis L.), forage turnips (Raphanus sativus L.) or quinoa (Chenopodium quinua). The percentage of legume seed and that of other species in the triple associations were 40:30:30 and, in the quadruple associations, 40:20:20:20. The percentage of seed of each species was calculated with base on the amount of seed recommended for planting as a monoculture. The experimental design was a randomized complete block, with 13 treatments and 3 replicates. The variables measured were green matter production by specie, association, and weeds and dry matter production by the green manure associations. In addition, the tolerance of species to insect and disease attack was observed. The results indicated that among the evaluated species the most promising were the forage turnips, oats, and vicia, these three species are included in the vicia × oats × forage turnips association.
