CARRIZOSA MOOG, Jaime  e  CASTANO PARRA, Andrés. Migraine or epilepsy: How to identify and differentiate occipital epilepsies. Iatreia [online]. 2005, vol.18, n.2, pp.209-217. ISSN 0121-0793.

Idiopathic focal epilepsies constitute 30-35% of all epilepsies between 2-10 years of age. The most frequent one is the so called Rolandic epilepsy or focal epilepsy with centrotemporal spikes. The second place of prevalence corresponds to occipital focal epilepsies; although less frequent, it is important to be familiar with them in order to be able to establish the differential diagnosis between them and with diseases such as migraine with aura. Symptomatic occipital epilepsies associated with structural abnormalities must be differentiated from idiopathic occipital epilepsies, with special attention to the early and late-onset syndromes: Panayiotopoulos and Gastaut syndromes, respectively.

Palavras-chave : centrotemporal (rolandic) epilepsy; idiopathic epilepsy; migraine with aura; symptomatic epilepsy.
