ROJAS LLANES, Jennifer Pilar; PEREA VILLAMIL, Janeth Aide  e  ORTIZ LOPEZ, Claudia Cristina. Compounds with potential pharmacological application obtained by geraniol and pinene biotransformation. Rev. Univ. Ind. Santander. Salud [online]. 2009, vol.41, n.3, pp.251-258. ISSN 0121-0807.

This paper presents a review on the studies reported for the biotransformation of the monoterpenes geraniol and pinene, emphasizing in the production of natural compounds with pharmaceutical applications, and showing results obtained in the Research Center in Science and Technology Food of the Industrial University of Santander. The bioconversion of geraniol using plant cells, fungi and bacteria leads to the production of different compounds, among which outstands the geranic acid, recognized for its anticancer properties. From (R)-(+)-α-pinene and using cells from different organisms have been principally produced verbenona and verbenol compounds used as starting materials to synthesize anti-tumor products. Salud UIS 2009; 41: 251-258.

Palavras-chave : Biotransformation; geraniol; pinene; geranic acid; verbenone; verbenol.
