MURRAY, Pamela S. WOMEN, GENDER AND POLITICS IN THE YOUNG COLOMBIAN REPUBLIC: A GLIMPSE THROUGH THE PERSONAL CORRESPONDENCE OF TOMÁS CIPRIANO DE MOSQUERA, 1859-1862. hist.crit. [online]. 2009, n.37, pp.54-71. ISSN 0121-1617.
This article sheds light on female participation in nineteenth century Colombian political life through an analysis of women's letters to General Mosquera. It shows that women were an integral part of the socio-political and cliental networks that surrounded the caudillo and that played a role in his revolt against the Ospina government. It also reveals how personal correspondence allowed them not only to request Mosquera's assistance, but, to offer the general information, advice, and opinions, ultimately inserting themselves into a larger world of politics.
