OREJARENA CUARTAS, Jaime Arturo. Long Wave Resonance Determination in the Colombian Pacific and other Natural Bays through Numerical Modeling. rev. cienc. [online]. 2019, vol.23, n.1, pp.13-24. ISSN 0121-1935. https://doi.org/10.25100/rc.v23i1.8619.
Resonance events have been studied in many ways in the world. These events occur when the angular frequency of an external force matches with the natural frequency of oscillation in the system, generating an increase of amplitude. In recent years the study of these waves has increased due to the extensive damage that this phenomenon causes 1 in places like Ciutadella in Spain, Shikotan Island in Japan and the Port of Rotterdam in the Netherlands.
In this paper we selected ten natural bays of three countries (Colombia, Spain and France), using a finite element model called MSP to determine the presence of resonant waves and the influence of morphology on the amplification. Propagation meshes generated in this model depended on the wavelength of the oscillation which is represented, having at least ten elements per wavelength.
The results obtained show that the bays are resonant at different frequencies, depending on their morphology, and there is a direct relationship between the resonant amplification of the bays and continental shelves where they are located.
