Objective:

To analyze the climate of security in an intensive therapy unit (ITU) for adults.

Methodology:

A descriptive, quantitative approach one, carried out in June 2014 at a teaching hospital. Thirteen nurses (46.42 %) and fifteen nursing technicians (53.57 %) participated and responded to the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire, with 36 items, divided into six domains and five levels of answers that were considered to be adequate if the total average score achieved a score greater than 75.

Results:

There were obtained the total media per domain: climate of teamwork= 77.38 points; climate of security= 69.90 points; job satisfaction = 88.04 points; perception of stress = 67.19 points; perception of management = 60.71 points and working conditions = 74.11 points.

Conclusion:

The climate of security in the investigated ITU is inappropriate because, among the six domains evaluated, four obtained scores under the established values.
