Daniel Pécaut is undoubtedly one of the most prominent sociologists in Latin America in recent times. His love for Colombia and empathy with Colombians led him to seek answers to the country’s principal problems. This article, intended as a tribute to his life and work, gives an account of his long research career, conceptual itinerary, and methodological approaches. Pécaut, as an interdisciplinary sociologist, demonstrated a holistic vision since his early years of training, enriching his analyses in dialogue with philosophy, history, and anthropology. It gave him a better understanding of Colombian society and allowed him to formulate innovative theses. He has become a reference for any research on the contemporary Colombian armed conflict and the necessary search for peace.
