GOMEZ-JOHNSON, Cristina. From Economic Migration to Forced Migration Due to the Increase of Violence in El Salvador and Mexico. Estud. Polit. [online]. 2015, n.47, pp.199-220. ISSN 0121-5167.  https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.espo.n47a12.

The main goal of this research is to study the impact of the increase of violence on current migrations from Mexico (Guerrero) and El Salvador (San Salvador and La Libertad) during the first decade of this century. These new migrations are not caused by the lack of job or economic instability, but by the lack of public safety. To do so, we chose qualitative methodology, but the climate of insecurity was a challenge to accomplish the field job. We made semistructurated interviews to people affected by violence and social workers. This research would not have been possible without the support of COFAMIDE, Human Rights Center of El Salvador and José Simeón Cañas University (UCA). In Mexico, we received support by Human Rights Center José María Morelos y Pavón, and Doctors Without Borders.

Palavras-chave : Violence; Forced Migration; Displacement; Human Rights; El Salvador; Mexico.
