Canavalia ensiformis (L.) DC. (Fabales: Fabaceae) exhibits legumes with white grains. Its cultivation has been developed for human consumption, forage with high nutritional value, and as green manure for certain soils. Entomofauna studies associated with this outstanding plant are very scarce. Entomofauna studies associated with this outstanding plant are very scarce. The objective of the work was to identify the species of thrips associated with flowers of C. ensiformis Coclé, Republic of Panama. The samplings were carried out every two weeks from November 2021 to February 2022, in the town of Río Hato in the province of Coclé, Republic of Panama. The study was carried out on an area planted with C. ensiformis estimated at 1 000 m2, with the purpose of being used as green manure, where 10 points distributed in a zig-zag were established at a distance of 10 meters from each other. At each point, one inflorescence per plant was selected and placed in a 4 Dram glass vial with a lid containing 95% alcohol. The collected thrips specimens were counted and identified based on microscopic preparations and specific identification keys. The presence of the species Frankliniella cephalica (Crawford), Frankliniella gossypina Hood, Frankliniella insularis (Franklin) and Frankliniella williamsi Hood of the family Thripidae (Insecta: Thysanoptera) in inflorescences of C. ensiformis in Panama is reported for the first time, and the number of host plants of these thrips species in America has increased. During the four months of study, F. insularis was the most abundant species.
