AGUIRRE SANTIAGO, Juan. Sociophonetic Study on Male Voice Perception and Sexual Orientation Stereotypes. Íkala [online]. 2018, vol.23, n.2, pp.269-284. ISSN 0123-3432. https://doi.org/10.17533/udea.ikala.v23n02a05.
Our work focuses on the perception of the male voice in relation to the stereotypes associated with sexual orientation. Through the use of a perceptual test conducted in France in 2012, we have tried to determine the ability of people to identify an individual's sexual orientation. In addition, we have analyzed the perception of six men's voices (three homosexual men and three heterosexual men) around five criteria: authority, masculinity, voice pitch, sympathy and warm attitude. To evaluate the validity of the judges' answers, we used the Chi-squared test. The perceptual test results have allowed us to question the relationship between these stereotypes and the identification of sexual orientation. However, the optimization of protocols and methodology is necessary to better understand the language strategies mobilized by minority and majority groups.
