LARA MANTILLA, Cecilia; GARCIA TAMARA, Liliana Pahola e OVIEDO ZUMAQUE, Luis E. Using a solid waste culture medium for growing a native strain having biofertiliser potential. Rev. colomb. biotecnol [online]. 2010, vol.12, n.1, pp.103-112. ISSN 0123-3475.
The present work gives the results obtained from assessing the growth, development and viability of a native bacterial strain (Azotobacter A15MG) having biofertiliser potential grown in culture medium obtained from vegetable solid waste (VSW): i.e. Brassica Oleracea (cabbage), Lactusa sativa (lettuce) and Allium fistulosum (chives). The bacterias growth on VSW culture medium at 25%, 50% and 75% w/v concentrations was evaluated, the 25% concentration producing the best growth. The following values were obtained for the chemical characterisation of this culture medium after it had been sterilised: 0.035% carbohydrates, 0.4044% protein, 0.03574% ash, 99.3955% moisture, 6.93 mg / l sulphur, 0.170 mg / l phosphorus, 0.2 mg / l manganese, 409.2 mg / l potassium, 1.842 mg / l iron, 14 mg / l sodium and 0.1 mg / l zinc, 28.056 mg / l calcium and 17.017 mg / l magnesium. The bacteriums nitrogen-producing and indol acetic acid (IAA)-fixing capacity were also evaluated in the 25% culture medium, 4.8725 mg/l and 13.5837 mg/l concentrations being obtained, respectively. A viability test was then carried out over a 2-month period. The results showed that VSW produced in local market squares can be used as culture medium offering a nutritional contribution to microorganisms having agricultural interest and minimising environmental-generated pollution.
