This article sees Mexico City at the end of the nineteenth century as sound imagery. The main subject of analysis for this aesthetic proposal will be the novel La Rumba (The Rumba), by Ángel de Campo, nicknamed Micrós. We want to show the underlying framework formed by the sounds of everyday city life and the work's dramatic tension. This critical exercise studies how technological changes can modify narrative strategies and help build what is commonly called the trademark of the time: a sort of brand on the skin of letters. In this context, the article examines how Micrós used diverse sensory strategies, mainly hearing, to describe his imagined city, the city imagined by its inhabitants and the Mexico City of Porfirio Díaz, which before being a city was just an ideal construct.
