GARCIA-ALZATE, CARLOS A.; ROMAN-VALENCIA, CÉSAR e PRADA-PEDREROS, SAÚL. Three new species of Hyphessobrycon group heterorhabdus (Teleostei: Characiformes: Characidae) and key to species from the Orinoco river basin. Caldasia [online]. 2010, vol.32, n.2, pp.443-461. ISSN 0366-5232.
Three new species of the Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus species group from the upper Orinoco River basin, from the Orinoquia region of Colombia, are described. Hyphessobrycon mavro sp. n. is distinguished from other known Orinoco basin Hyphessobrycon by the following combination of characters: four to six teeth in the maxilla, 17 teeth in the dentary, snout length 9.9-15.2% of head length and the absence of bony hooks on the fins of the males. Hyphessobrycon niger n. sp. can be distinguished by the nine teeth in the dentary, five scales with pores in the lateral line, 25 to 26 lateral scales, three scales between the lateral line and pelvic fins, two scales between the lateral line and the anal fin, and a dark lateral line that fuses with a conspicuous peduncular spot. Hyphessobrycon acaciae sp. n. can be distinguished by the 14 teeth on the dentary, four simple anal-fin rays, and the absence of bony hooks on the fins of the mature males. A key to the Orinoco river basin species of the Hyphessobrycon heterorhabdus group is included.
