ESPINOSA-HERRERA, Gretel  e  MANUELCASTELLANOS-OBREGON, Juan. Structuring process of transgressing practices related to the consumption of psychoactive substances in university students. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2018, vol.16, n.2, pp.777-795. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.16209.

Contemporary young people are immersed within culturally-based scenarios in which their ways of living are influenced by the dynamics of drug consumption and trade. There is evidence of progressive normalization of the consumption of psychoactive substances among young people, in public spaces and in a range of scenarios, including university campuses. In this location, several psychoactive substances are consumed by young people, including primarily alcohol, psychiatric medications and marijuana and to a lesser extent cocaine and synthetic drugs, making these spaces a part of their everyday lives and as an essential place for the context of socialization. This article covers findings from a research study designed to explore how the practices of consumption of psychoactive substances were structured in university students, specifically with their intentions related to consumption and interaction as a structuring process in social practices. A qualitative design was implemented using focus groups and interviews along with a methodological-hermeneutic approach based on the double hermeneutic proposed by Giddens (2003). The analysis identified that the practices of psychoactive substance consumption are structured based upon the interrelation between structural and individual elements that determine actions and the types of experiences that students have during psychoactive substances-related contexts. These practices establish knowledge and create new expressions and ways of interacting with other members of the group.
