Venezuela is regarded today as the center of hemispheric attention, both for the complex humanitarian crisis to which the population is subjected and for having a government that protects and sponsors criminal and terrorist organizations. This complicates the project of political transition to democracy set up by the national democratic sector. Recent history shows that criminal organizations adapt easily to new political realities, becoming a first-order nontraditional threat. Therefore, this project should not be considered a task of the Venezuelan democratic sectors only since, within the framework of regional security, the international community has the same level of prominence in it.
