This article reports a review and analysis of rigorous and systematized discourse on education and peace and teacher training in higher education institutions.

Objective:

To contribute to knowledge about peace education.

Methodology:

Various sources were reviewed in a systematized and rigorous search in several scientific databases composed of articles, theses, projects and reports. This review was carried out on the formulation of the following search equations: peace and education; peace and politics; peace in educational institutions; and peace and teacher training. In each thematic axis, the corresponding analysis was carried out in terms of the theoretical assumptions of the authors and their position regarding the topics to be worked on in the documentary review. Subsequently, conclusions were drawn against the overview that showed the state of the art and the background, giving clarity to the discussions, findings and epistemological positions, in addition to analyzing where Colombia is going with regard to peace building. It is evident that there is neither consensus in the way of understanding the concept of peace nor in the relations to the ways of confronting the armed conflict and building peace processes.
