MORONG REYES, GERMÁN. Saberes hegemónicos y Proyecto de dominio colonial: los indios en la obra de Juan de Matienzo gobierno del Perú (1567). Front. hist. [online]. 2013, vol.18, n.2, pp.77-103. ISSN 2027-4688.

The documental value of the work Gobierno del Perú (1567), by Juan de Matienzo, has been stablished, both by the classic historiography as well as by the colonial Andean ethno-history, as the first structural design of governability of the Peruvian viceroyalty. This in virtue of Matienzo's experience as a learned man and in virtue of his keen observations as a royal civil servant. His work had a decisive influence on Instrucciones, the classic and very celebrated work by Viceroy Francisco de Toledo. Taking as a point of departure this historical context (the turbulent decade from 1560 to 1570) and the discursive structure of the text itself, two objectives are put forward. First, I wish to show that Matienzo's work makes possible to study the different forms acquired by the classic textual tradition through the new world textual production. Second, I intend to analyze how medical and cientific knowledge were used as a mean for identity construction in order to legitimize and justify colonial domination of the native population.
