R0SELLY, DIANA. Social Dynamics in Buenos Aires Frontier: Desertion among Blandengues in the 18 th Century. Front. hist. [online]. 2020, vol.25, n.2, pp.94-118. ISSN 2027-4688.  https://doi.org/10.22380/20274688.1141.

This paper focuses on the social dynamics of the deserters from the Blandengues armed force in the three last decades of the 18th century. As Buenos Aires struggled to manage multiple frontiers, the local interests overlapped with those of the monarchy, causing different forms of insubordination that can be read as a resistance to the military duties imposed to the population. Based on the analysis of the legal processes opened to these offenders, this paper attempts to describe the causes, procedures, rules, and practices developed around desertion, as well as the interactions through which different subjects create new and original sociability forms, normalize diverse interactions, and participate of broad exchange circuits and ultimately build a frontier society.
