Introduction: Patterns of nursing knowledge are ways of responding to questions and problems that arise in the discipline. Six patterns have been identified in nursing knowledge. The empirical, aesthetic, personal, ethical proposed by Barbara Carper; Jill White's socio-political and emancipatory by Peggy Chinn and Kramer Maeona. Materials and Methods: Reflection article about the pattern of socio- political knowledge from the conceptual elements of expression and credibility exposed by Chinn and Kramer and from the epistemological and ontological questions proposed by Mary Silva. Results: This pattern of knowledge includes certain features that allow clearly differentiate, avoiding their inclusion in the empirical pattern as has been proposed by other authors. Discussion and Conclusions: Nursing finds in the pattern of socio- political knowledge the way forward and ensure their permanence as a discipline that provides a benefit to society to see the context as an opportunity for visibility and expression.
