The human papillomavirus (HPV) infection is the most common sexually transmitted disease in the world. The HPV is a necessary cause for the cervical cancer development, but is not enough, because other factors are involved in the infection to cancer progression. The HPV belongs to the Papovaviridae family, it is a DNA virus and is classified as a cutaneous and mucous virus.
