PEREDA, CARLOS. AUTONOMY AND ITS TWO MOST RECURRENT PATHOLOGIES. Ideas y Valores [online]. 2013, vol.62, suppl.1, pp.153-170. ISSN 0120-0062.
The article explores the Kantian concept of moral autonomy on the basis of its conceptual framework, highlighting the differences and similarities with the concepts of personal independence and authenticity. In the light of Kant's moral philosophy, authenticity and personal independence seem to be ideals of life closely related to autonomy; however, a more detailed analysis reveals that they are pathologies of autonomy. Kantian autonomy is defined as the capacity for self-legislation of the human animal according to the best reasons, which are always open to critique and whose only limitation is the dignity of persons.
