This article is intended to make a brief analysis on political, economic, and social changes occurred in Latin America on the 80's, wich are evident in the relationship among state, market and society, as well as transformations within each one of such segments. Method used was a documentary analysis of recent Latin American sociological and economic works and researches. This experience allowed making a reflection on effects brought by the transition to democracy in this region. For making such analysis, cases of Mexico and Colombia were taken as references. This main conclusion is that a centralized State, a common characteristc of the developing model, is still current, but market has been given more importance at the expense of society.
