It is no coincidence that far-right governments have promoted denialist health policies during the covid-19 pandemic or that these governments have disqualified the struggle for gender equality in their countries, as the field of public health is a pioneer in the debate for gender equality, reproductive rights, and female sexual emancipation. The article analyzes the Brazilian case, exploring possible connections between the foreign policy, health and gender agendas during opposing governments: Lula and Dilma’s center left, on the one hand, and Bolsonaro’s extreme right, on the other. We also analyze the foreign politics of this agenda within the scope of the external analysis which, during the pandemic, resulted in the dismantling of regional public health arrangements in favor of a conservative pro-chloroquine global alliance.
