CASIERRA-POSADA, Fánor; PENA-OLMOS, Jaime Ernesto  e  VARGAS-MARTINEZ, Andrés Felipe. Physical and Chemical Properties of Strawberries (Fragaria sp) Grown Under Photoselective Filters. Rev. Fac. Nac. Agron. Medellín [online]. 2011, vol.64, n.2, pp.6221-6228. ISSN 0304-2847.

An experiment was carried out to examine the effects of light quality on the fruit quality in strawberry (Fragaria sp cv. Chandler) established in glasshouse. Five different colored polypropylene filters (red, blue, yellow, green and clear) were tested, with plants growing without cover as control. Fresh and dry weight, length and width, total soluble solids (TSS), pH, titratable acidity (TA) and maturity index (MI), were measured on fruits. All evaluated variables were significantly affected by the spectral filters, except the pH of the juice. The fruit growth was strongly reduced by green cover. Under the yellow cover plants enhanced the fresh weight of fruits and the MI. The blue cover reduced the TSS content in fruits as well as the MI. The length and width of fruits were improved by the red cover. The clear cover increased the TSS and the TA. For certain variables, the results were no enough conclusive to propose this new production system in the strawberry crop in the tropical highlands; however, it would be important to assess this production technique in regions with higher irradiance to the region where this study was done.
