NUNEZ CUEVAS, Juan Camilo. COVID-19 mortality as factual evidence for strengthening security and defense strategies. Rev. Cient. Gen. José María Córdova [online]. 2021, vol.19, n.34, pp.356-375. Epub 23-Abr-2021. ISSN 1900-6586. https://doi.org/10.21830/19006586.696.
The COVID-19 pandemic has produced significant political, economic, and social changes. Consequently, security and defense strategies have faced an unusual threat, which may jeopardize sovereignties, territories and alter the world order. This mixed-method study, employing a historical, statistical, and epidemiological observational non-experimental simulated approach, uses five independent and one dependent variable to compare the mortality of wars and transnational terrorism with the current pandemic. It also projects the impact of an eventual future pandemic on these strategies. The aim is to establish factual evidence with solid arguments, explaining the need to strengthen and reconsider security and defense strategies for the post-COVID future.
