Different fields of the humanities exhibit a renewed interest in issues concerning human person. The concept of "person", which is widely used by the humanities, is deeply entrenched in Western Christian theology and such a fact is often unrecognized. This Christian root has not only shaped the concept, but has also promoted a reflection about the value and dignity of men which has been recovered by several intellectual traditions including personalism. The later has had a major influence on the theological corpus of important theologians of the 20^th and 21^st century. In the following paper, it is proposed to rediscover the Christian background of this term and study the transformation it has undergone throughout the history of Western thought, which has been characterized by an urgent necessity to provide meaning to life. Based on a chronological and bibliographical review of the most relevant moments of Christian Western thought, focusing on the concept of "person", the paper aims to understand the relevance of reflecting on the meaning of the theological-relational dimension of the human person in our time.
