OSPINA-CALDERON, Nhora Helena et al. Diversity Composition and Structure of a Sub Andean Forest at La Hondonada Private Natural Reserve in Yotoco-Valle. rev. cienc. [online]. 2018, vol.22, n.2, pp.45-61. ISSN 0121-1935. https://doi.org/10.25100/rc.v22i2.7920.
La Hondonada Natural Reserve has an unknown number of endemic and threatened plant species. In this project, a floristic composition study was carried out in this natural reserve by integrating teaching and research activities in the Biology program at the PUJ Cali. Through field activities of the Plant Diversity course and the laboratory and field activities of the Plant Diversity study group (2013-2016), a sample of 1000 m2 was advanced in a relic of a sub-Andean forest within a matrix of crops and grassland. All plants were counted in ten band transects 50*2 m documenting the richness and abundance, in addition to the dasometric measurements. Plant samples were collected for preserved and determination with local and virtual herbaria (CUVC, COL, JBB). 131 species were represented in 45 botanical families. The most diverse family was Araceae with 33 species. The most abundant species were Selaginella geniculata in herbaceous layer and Faramea occidentalis in the understory. Nectandra macrophylla, Gustavia speciosa and Ocotea caracasana were the most abundant species in the arboreal stratum. The arboreal stratum abundance is related to the dasometry since the species with higher IVI and IPF were also Gustavia speciosa and Nectandra macrophylla. A diverse forest was found, with composition and dominance of species inherited from conservation in fragmented landscapes. Botanical families with some degree of protection and threat such as Orchidaceae and Lecythidaceae were reported which encourages conservation of forest at La Hondonada Natural Reserve, meanwhile, new botanists were trained and specialized.
