This work aims to raise explanatory hypotheses that allow to come closer to the reasons that generated the strategic defeat of the armed insurgency in the Colombian Caribbean region. In this respect, there are theories of the political science in use claiming that the success of the insurgents fight is based on the existence of authoritarian regimes or restricted democracies. There must be added to this the existence of a few particular endogenous reasons of the Colombian region and internal conditions of the insurgent macrostructures that operated in it. Through this work it is expected to generate an interpretive frame that allows to analyze the defeat or continuity of the armed insurgency in other regions of Colombia
