HENRIQUES, LUÍS. The convent of Our Lady of Conception of Angra: The Liturgical-Musical Activity and its implementation in an insular city in the 17th and 18th centuries. Hist. Caribe [online]. 2022, vol.17, n.40, pp.43-74. Epub 25-Out-2022. ISSN 0122-8803. https://doi.org/10.15648/hc.40.2022.3201.
The convent of Nossa Senhora da Conceição, of religious conceptionists, was founded on the outskirts of the city of Angra (Terceira island, Azores) in the early 17th century. The presence of this community implied a new soundscape in the religious universe of the city. The 17th century chroniclers Fr. Agostinho de Monte Alverne and Padre Manuel Luís Maldonado report a series of events between the convent and the city where music would be present. Based on these reports, this study explores the events of the religious community, such as the entrance of novices ceremonies and professions ceremonies, and the participation of the city's population.
