This article reports the study of the "Film culture in Cartagena 1958 - 1971", which analyzes the experience of watching movies in the city during the sixties, according to the social history of cinema methodological approach. The aim is to follow the historical hint of expectation, as a key aspect in the formation of filmic subjectivities regarding cinematic billboard of the time. An expectation related to the tension between the cinema of tears, the melodrama, and the cinema of the avant-garde, especially the new Latin American cinema, in addition, a tension between the popular palace and the ciné-clubs in a counterculture context.
