MATIAS-RODRIGUES, Maria Natália e DE ARAUJO-MENEZES, Jaileila. Young women: reflections on youth and gender of the Hip Hop Movement. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2014, vol.12, n.2, pp.703-715. ISSN 1692-715X. https://doi.org/10.11600/1692715x.12213230114.
This work is the result of research conducted in the master in Psychology where we discuss the experience of young women Rappers. We used a qualitative approach and conducted observations of events of the Hip Hop Movement of Recife, in northeastern Brazil, semistructured interviews with young women Rappers and analysis of ten Rap lyrics produced by women. We realized that although valued, the Movement continues to reproduce hegemonic discourses related to gender inequalities. The presence of women in the movement has contributed to destabilizing the public/private dichotomy; through their music, they reach spaces of visibility, can challenge the gender codes of the Hip Hop movement, proposing new ways of thinking, and have a voice and opportunity in a society marked by macho values.
