BONVILLANI, Andrea. Youthicide: a concept birthed by pain. Reflections of a bibliographic review. Rev.latinoam.cienc.soc.niñez juv [online]. 2022, vol.20, n.3, pp.417-442.  Epub 01-Fev-2023. ISSN 1692-715X.  https://doi.org/10.11600/rlcsnj.20.3.5548.

This paper is based on a systematic qualitative review of scientific literature published in the Spanish language between 2010 and 2021, which had the objective of analyzing theoretical discussions and current progress with research in the field of youthcide. The results show that in the face of the pain caused by the violent and systematic deaths of young people, the fundamental contribution of this field is to conceptualize these deaths as a crime with state responsibility and as having a potential framework for legal action. Specifically, in the last four years the use of this concept has made it possible to map systematic violence against Latin American youth in situated geopolitical and historical enclaves, as well as resistance strategies for the defense of life. The author’s critical discussion identifies gaps in terms of empirical studies on the subjective-emotional dimensions of the suffering experienced by victims and its impact on public policies.
