Abstract The study of practices and rituals of beauty gives evidence on the analysis of bodies because of their relationship with economic, political, business, spaces of power, regulation, modeling, and culture. Furthermore, this essay examines social and cultural representations of beauty contests and beauty salons by using oral history in order to shed light on beauty stereotypes and body representations in Costa Rica during 1950-1980. Oral history is used to make women’s voice visible and to take to first foreground conscience and themes relevant for women. This paper also focuses on contradictions and regulations of women’s stereotypes in public places.
