SANCHEZ LOVELL, Adriana e CHACON ROLDAN, Flory. Vagrancy and women transgression in Costa Rica (1870-1910): A construction from below. memorias [online]. 2016, n.30, pp.158-187. ISSN 1794-8886. https://doi.org/10.14482/memor.30.9084.
Abstract In this article we analyze the exercise of laws against women vagrancy from a social history and criminality perspective. The control of costumes and traditions and the way in which women from different sectors defended their way of life are explained so we convey knowledge about their material circumstances of life and worldview. The discussion focuses on the social transgression exercised by women in the liberal period in Costa Rica from 1870 (the beginning of the Liberal Reforms) until 1910 (when changes the penal politic). The search for the material under study was done in the National Archive of Costa Rica, these include the Collection of Laws and decrees and court records for vagrancy.
